NGC2903 galaxy in Leo

NGC2903 is a barred spiral galaxy 30 million light years away in Leo. It was discovered by German-born astronomer William Herschel, who cataloged it on November 16, 1784.

Numerous smaller galaxies can also bee seen in the field.
Skywatcher 12" F5 Newtonian, ZWO ASI 183mm Pro, Svbony LRGB filters, 246 minutes exposure. Median stacked to removed satellite and asteroid trails. Rushed as usual to beat the cloud, so it's a bit noisy.

Very impressive detail in the spiral arms, looks like image taken from a much larger scope.
Clear skies Ken.

Excellent pic Kevin,
it's amazing how well amateur photos stack up against million or billion dollar telescopes -

you sent me on a search for other pics:

A great galaxy shot. Noise levels are ok and colour detail works well.

Maaate, your images have improved out'a sight man! That's a very good galaxy shot...and of one that we southerners don't image very often either, very cool

Mike

Magnificent. Too far North for us, so we're glad you've done such a nice one.

Thanks Ken. I think the smaller sensor of the 183 might contribute to that effect. It's a good combination for galaxies.

Thanks Allan. I was just browsing through some Astronomy magazines from the 1980's. How technology has improved over the years. Amateurs now are up to observatory standard of the day.

Thanks Rodney. Colour was shot at Bin 4 to save time.

Thanks Mike! The 183 and 12" seem like a great combo for galaxies. I'm really curious to shoot more to see what they come out like.

Thanks M&T. If the cloud clears I'll be getting some more northern ones. I want the black eye and needle especially.

Is it? Looks like it peaks at about 35 degrees above the horizon from Sydney.. so 36 for you
Is that too low?
