First Light

Finally got my hands onto a cooled camera, ASI071mc pro

After figuring out cooling and some bug in PHD2, I was able to snap off some test shots. Still trying to work out some bugs with another scope I went back to the RC and reducer which was at 1261mm f/l.

180 sec x 15
Darks
Bias

I need to put some flats in or clean the protective window as there is a couple little circles around the image.

Thanks for looking.

Some terrific detail at that focal length and the new camera has captured it well. I can see some super results coming from your set up now, I look forward to watching your progress. Nicely done!

Huge improvement Karl.

Lots more detail coming out from the noise.

Now have another go at M83!

Thanks Michael and Peter, during processing I could see how clear it was without the noise from the dslr. Final noise reduction was minimal even most of the tweaks in star tools was minimal or left at base settings.
I'm excited to see what I can produce now with this camera and scope, the RC always gave great images.
Yes Peter, M83 is already on the list of galaxies for this winter. I just hope it isn't going to be as wet as they say.

Great image. That larger pixel size really helps I think.

Thanks Ray,

I'm thinking of a couple of DSO I'd like to do but with the RC at normal focal length but it'll be slightly oversampled, if I bin 2x2 then it puts the resolution in the good range.

Maybe someone can fill me in if that'll work the way I'm thinking.

Just in range for average seeing I think . Check here. Can you use a reducer?

I use astronomy tools a lot, I have a reducer which gives me the f/l of 1261 or without it's 1593 or fully reduced I get a f/l of 1000.

nice work Karl. Seeing your image makes me miss my ASI071mc. I have a more sensitive camera now, but i feel the 071 capture better star colour; maybe larger pixel size is a factor.
