Aaaargh me hearties.....NGC2467

aaargh... me hearties! This is NGC2467 also known colloquially as the Skull & Crossbones nebula. Myself I cannot for the life of me figure out how it got that name. Might have to try a truecolour LRGB image to see if it pops out. Anyway, this is a nice bright emission nebula in Puppis, currently very easy to get for us southern hemisphere imagers and observers. Narrowband image made of 15x5 minutes of Ha, 23x5 minutes of OIII (oxygen) and 20x5 minutes of SII (sulphur). Taken with ZWO ASI 1600MM Pro through a Steallarvue SVR102T-IS scope on Skywatcher EQ8 mount. Guided with PHD2 and a ZWO ASI290MM guide camera and ZWO OAG. Astrodon 36mm narrowband filters (Ha 5nm, OIII and SII 3nm). Captured with SGP and processed with Pixinsight. Wanted to get a little more Ha and SII data but last night clouded out at about 1am so had to pack it in.

Should be fine. Mine is 571mm on a 1600MM camera. Cropped it a fairl bit as there was some faint Ha sitting in one corner that I wanted to get rid off.

Lovely job Malcom. Lots of faint stuff there. Very well done.

It is a scientifically proven fact that the nebula is actually Snoopy on his rocket ship, taking a trip to the beach:

You just need to hold it upside down, or rotate Don Goldman's version 90 degrees.
