external pwr supply for dsi

is anybody aware of a power adapter that can be purchased or built that can be used to pwr up the meade DSI.

i would prefer not to suck power through the usb as it is a big drain on the laptop.

maybe just a splitter box that the usb cable goes into and separates the power supply so that a separate supply powers the DSI

My suggestion would be a powered USB Hub Arthur. Cheap and works a treat.

Thankyou Paul

Since reading your reply I have had a look around at what you suggest, These powered usb hubs appear to be available with ext pwr supplies. This may be the way to go.

I had one other issue with the DSI, ie. the connecting cable was to short and the use of a passive high speed usb extension immediately generated an error, I ended up with an "active usb extension cable" which solved that problem (at a slightly more expensive cost).

Thankyou for your reply

Yep using an extension with the DSI will at times cause power problems. It is a ridiculously short cable. But if you velcro a powered hub to your mount its not toooooo bad. Just watch for snag-ups when slewing
