Bit embarrassing putting this up after some of the amazing images that other people have been posting. But I'm rapt because it is the best Jupiter I've ever taken, and my first that shows the GRS! This one is from this morning - processing is rough but I'm too tired. NexImage through Tasco 4.5" f8 reflector, 2x GSO Barlow, 4x5sec AVIs, Registax v3 (my v4 has stopped handling multiple AVIs, and I just can't figure out how to make it - it used to). Moons are Io, top, and Ganymede, bottom.
Anyway, keep posting the great images - at least I can dream!
Thanks Mike! Celestron NexImage webcam, no tracking on scope. Therefore I'm limited to short AVIs as the target drifts across the laptop screen. Fortunately I can keep things on-screen reasonably easily with the motorised Alt-Az mount, but it's too jerky to try to stabilise it there. The 2x Barlow gives me f16, but with the small aperture (114mm) & consequent low light I have to use fairly long shutter speeds at high mag (couldn't go any higher than this), and focus can be a real pain in the low light. Even so, it's a great challenge & real fun!
This is from another set of AVIs from this morning 3:50am, at midpoint of GRS transit. "Bulk" processed in Registax earlier this morning - ran quickly through PS: rotate, slight levels, colour balance, big unsharp mask and a few minor tweaks. Overprocessed for my liking, but better coloured (?) & brings out some cloud detail in equatorial band. Still, it's junk in, junk out until I attack the original AVIs. All the same, very pleased with result so far, for cheap 114mm reflector and my caveman approach to the intricacies of processing.
