Classic, 400mm ED f3.5 IF-AIS manual focus super-telephoto lens. All metal construction, superb optics and built like a tank, weighing in at about 2.8kg. This one is in excellent to mint condition for its age and is from the first generation of these fast ED glass lenses. I bought this lens for terrestrial photography, but I'm sure it would be very good for astrophotography work as well. The focusing is super smooth and precise, and capable of rapid focusing. Main reason for selling is that I have upgraded to a longer fast telephoto, so it is surplus to needs. Has been stored in a dry environment.
Disclosure: after I purchased this lens early last year I noticed a 4 to 5mm circular transparent 'blem' or discolouration? on the rear surface of the front element, unreported by the seller. It has been sent to local service agents, including Nikon, who claim the 'blem' is not fungus related, but were unwilling to attempt repair. In use I have been unable to notice any negative image affects from the blem. The rest of the lens elements look perfect to my eye, apart from some minor dust on the external surfaces. However, I will price the lens at a much lower cost than what I paid for it, owing to the small mark on the lens. A red arrow on one of the images shows the blem.
Includes an after-market screw in lens cap, plus the standard internal Nikon UV filter and rear cap.
