Jupiter March 28 from Murrumbateman
Last night / this morning was another hubble night here in Canberra. Matt got some good data from his home and I also found some excellent seeing at Murrumbateman about 25km north of Canberra.
The image data from this session is probably the best data I've collected on Jupiter to date, it seems substantially better than the seeing on the 14th of this month.
I have a lot more to do, but here's one early processed image.
Scope:
http://www.acquerra.com.au/astro/lexx.html
capture: 50 seconds each channel in RGB
regards, Bird

Holy cow!
Look at the detail in the GRS and around the white ovals.
Incredible image, I know there'll be better to come too! Very jealous that I was at work! Nicely done.

Anthony, What a fantastic image. I cant believe the fine red circle around the red spot *inside* the Great Red Spot. Also the small dark knots in edge of the bay below the Red Spot.
Just out of interest , how much larger will Jupiter appear at opposition??

This is not a good opposition, it gets to 45" only. It's currently about 40".
You should split out the RGB channels, there's lots of interesting stuff in there that gets lost in the colour image, especially fine circulation around the GRS, both outside and inside. There is a fine blue coloured circulation system in there as well.
A better image is coming soon :-)

Mark, your mirror is doing it's stuff... I'm not sure how close to "perfect" it is, but it's hard to imagine the data getting any better than I had this morning.
cheers, Bird

ok, many a time, i see a great image and think, hey we have caught Damian Peach................(
http://damianpeach.com/barbados06/ju...006_04_19c.jpg )
I have never ever seen an image where the GRS is just like a 3d hurricane image from a plane!!!
Flick between the above images of Damians and Birds......I do believe Bird has nailed the best image I have ever seen!
Congrats Bird, yes seeing has a lot to do with it, but you really deserve this worlds best image!

That's a fantastic image, Anthony.
What a Jupiter season we are already having, and there's still a while to go before Jove is at his biggest and best!!!
We've certainly had a good month.
Let's all say a little "thanks" to the Weather Gods for a terrific March, and roll on April, May and June

While I'm chewing on other images I thought you might like this - this is a real-size image oriented the way I was seeing the raw data. Same image data as above.
cheers, Bird

I can stick some raw data on a DVD for you if you want to have a play :-)
be warned, each run is 3 x 50 seconds @ 40fps, each frame is 600kb so that comes to about 3.6Gb for *one* image run.
If I compress the data on teh DVD then I might fit 2 runs on there :-)
cheers, Bird
