I’ve decided to sell my 16” Dob, it just takes up too much room. The mirrors are in very good condition and the tube and base are structurally very good but cosmetically fair to good. The white covering on the ‘sonotube’ has yellowed over time and there are a few nicks and scratches on the tube covering and base. The tube is fitted with a home-made adjustable ‘counterweight’ and the movement in both axes is smooth. I have also fitted Argo Navis encoders. A Meade 8x50mm finder is fitted as is a Telrad base and a home made tube cap.
I have really enjoyed great views through this scope, particularly under the dark skys at the Ilford Star Party. As expected, this scope is a primarily a deep sky ‘light bucket’ but it has also provided me with bright detailed views of the planets.
Due to the size and weight of this scope, pick up is the only practical option. It is currently located at Kangaroo Valley NSW.
Hard to put a value on this scope but I’m thinking $850 would be a reasonable starting point.
