Just a few from tonight

couple of shots. One of Ganymede and its shadow through the 10" and the other through the ED80mm. Usual settings.

Excellent shots Paul, some of your best of Jupiter. Nice and crisp and good detail.

My shots (will post later) were taken about the same time as your 3rd one.. the clouds came over and I didn't get a chance to catch the shadow transit. I know ganymede is on the disc somewhere but I can't see it

Hey thanks guys for the comments. Still not 100% happy with these images, I want to get shots a lot better than these. I think that seeing is letting me down and I noticed that the blue channel is always out of focus. I will have to either get a filter to compensate or another camera to obtain better shots. Still these are good shots for my first season of shooting the Jovian.

Gary, yeah had the same opinion but thought it would be nice to show people what this little scope is capable of. For a 3 inch, it does produce nice and sharp images. Looking at stars through it is mind blowing. I am waiting for the moon to disappear so that I can take some wide fields with it. Thought I might get one of Orion and Running man before it is gone for the season.

thanks again.

Paul,

Does Jupiter look similar to that or as big as that through the toucam when viewed on a monitor?

Andrew that is exactly how it looks and the exact size. I do not resample when imaging with the 2.5 powermate. If I use the 5x the image is triple the size of these. The one below is an example of the 5x powermate image with the LX200. You have to bear in mind that the LX200 has a focal length of 2500mm. That means that the 2.5 powermate and toucam magnify at around 1041 times and the 5x powermate and toucam magnify at around 2083 times. I have only ever had one night where the 5x was useful on the LX200. I mostly image with the 2.5x.

It must be borne in mind that the visual max mag is around 600 times and therefore you would never seen this sort of detail where you to look at it through an EP.

The second image is on frame of what I see through the 2.5x

Anyway this is what I see when I image.

Hope that helps
