Comet Lovejoy Animation
Took a set of frames (13) with the 300mm lens and 5DH this morning. Below is a full frame and here is an animated gif. Each frame was a 2min exposure at ISO 1600 with a 2minute gap between for ICNR. So the sequence is about 50 minutes. North is to the left.
1.4MB

Next time I will autoguide on the comet itself. I think there is a hint of a tail at 45 deg from horizontal to the right.

Wow Bert - what a fantastic animation! A very impressive insight into the dynamics of our Solar System and all the objects that dwell therein.
Thanks for posting this - a lot of work and thought obviously went into this project and it is much appreciated.
Cheers

They were taken in the last hour before twilight started. The next frames were starting to turn blue
I am going to try for a longer sequence tonight! Famous last words.

Well no wonder Terry found it. Can't be too hard to find it when it's jiggling about like that!
Seriously, that is a great animation sequence Bert!

Well done Bert.
As someone who has only just been involved with his first animation I fully appreciate the work which has gone into this.
I'm really impressed with how static all the stars are in that animation. You've really aligned all those frames very nicely.
What software did you use to create that animation?
Excellent

I cheat by using registar to select exactly the same area by first running registar with the small cropped image as the reference frame and then assigning the refererence frame a value of 0.0001 and then select intersection and then combine. You end up with a perfectly aligned set of images.

I used UnFREEz to make the gif animation. It is free and it is 19.5KB!

Here is a stacked and enhanced image of the animation sequence with Registax. There is a faint tail.

Yes great animation there. I must try your lens on it next time, maybe with the UHCS filter on. Its really scooting along too now.
