Lowering the bar - but a lot going on in this field!

One of those pics that I had thought "Not really nice enough for IIS"... but now, with so much rain and no sky time I think "these people need to see this!".

Here is a pretty average effort on a pretty cool field.
As far as I know, from left to right we have IC 2581 cluster, NGC 3247 (the whirling dervish... sensational name!) and NGC 3199 (the banana nebula).

These are in Carina, along with so many other goodies... I think thats probably part of the reason that they don't get too much attention. There are a few Wolf-Rayet stars in here, and a bunch of O stars too. Its special, yo!

If I remember correctly this is 4 or 5 x 15mins in Ha and Oiii, rendered here in HOO and a straight Hydrogen alpha ditty because I like the detail in it a bit better. No dithering, which I blame for every single pixel on the sensor looking like it has been dragged down a chalkboard. Can't wait to fix that.

Really not even close to a decent amount of data, and now its out of range. I think I see enough here that I'm keen to jump on it when the huge merry-go-round in the sky spins it back up at a decent hour.

JP, don't worry about the "not really nice enough" stuff. This is not a competition, hopefully. What is important is do you like it, are you happy with the result? I can tell you from experience, we tend to be our own hardest critic.

Great effort JP.

It would be good to see a hi res version.
Astrobin is free.

And Glen is right.
Post all your efforts good or bad, that's how we learn.

Thanks for those words, gents!

I was just referring to my own bar, a threshold below which i keep my images to myself. I don'thate this image but i also dont think its much better than the "postcard" o take to just take a look at things, and nor should it be with the amount of integration in it.

I do have an astrobin account, but my threshold there is higher again, since i think a free accountis limited to 10 pics?

I've been tapping away at this for 4months now, and i can still counton one hand the number of clear nights that I've not been outside with a scope. (I was even out night before last, with lightning still around, pushed my tripod feet into the mud and saw/split rasalgethi for the first time.. 110% worth it!) I really have a LOT of trash, but if the weather continues to be this bad, you may end up seeing all of it anyway

Just a word of warning about Astrobin, early this year Astrobin had a drive crash and there was no backup as a result many (most) members lost a considerable amount of their stored images. I lost about 200, and while I have the original files backed up on my external drive at home, the many hours required to upload and try to remember all the details and comments to set it all up again are not on my agenda now. Back up everything you do, somewhere you trust, and not on your PC alone; an external drive you own is ok initially.
It is also worth while to consider a journal to record your comments related to each image that you finalise, with the details you would want to share with any viewers later on; it is also useful for tracking your own progress on this journey.

Thanks for that, Glen! My filing is really bad, perhaps I'll do some tidying up over the coming nights. I do have a journal that i use for visual, but i reckon you're right, wouldbe good to have a record of what worked and what didnt each night
