Spiral Galaxy NGC6744

This is a very beautiful southern galaxy. Its not far from the south celestial pole.

Always a favourite.

Lovely galaxy, Greg although the stars look a bit unusual?

Good one Greg. I like the way you have managed to get the delicate spiral arm stretching out to the satellite galaxy.

Geez...looks like you have run a heavy minimum or star-shrink tool over the stars. Something not quite right there

Colour looks good and nice image scale just the same.

Thaks Bart. Yeah I got a bit heavy handed with Starshrink. Fixed it now. They are more Gaussian.

Thanks Geoff.Good seeing and the 16200 sensor is a good match for the CDK under good conditions.

Yes, got me. I've fixed the heavy handedness on the stars.

That's beautiful. Perfect colour, very sharp, very deep. We reckon we can just make out the spiral arms continuing past the satellite galaxy for another half-turn.

Oh yeah I missed that. Haven't seen that before. Wow, these satellite galaxies really have a large impact on the host galaxy. I wonder what affect the LMC and SMC have on the Milky Way. Its hard to tell looking from inside it.

Hi Greg,
What a great shot of NGC6744 . You have certainly upped the bar on that one too.

I've only attempted photographing this the once but discovered that its a super faint sucker. Great job! Your exposure time has really made the galaxy pop from the background.

Thanks Suavi. Yes the CDK17 dwarfs the CFF. When I piggyback it on the CDK it seems so small but by itself its quite the little tank.

It certainly is one of the fainter ones but arguably one of the prettiest.
Its also supposed to be one that is considered to be very similar to our Milky Way.

Greg.
