first lhso

learning stuff all the time but now its the LRGB thing in Startools...I obtained data for O11 S11 and HA and combined the best of the subs from them for a L and this is what I got...clearly lots of very young stars as you will notice from so many blueish ones but so happy to at least get this somewhat working...few things to work on but very happy to made a step forward in startools.
Edit..mmm Saturation needs to be revved up but otherwise ok

Far out! That darker one has real depth around the pillars.... really interesting effect! Is this process something that startools guides you through?
Really cool to see

Thank you..the first looks so different to what was on my lappy...Star tools does not guide you thru but most settings you can leave along ... it's the sort of 5hing if someone walks you thru it you have it...the LRGB was a mystery to me but it's so simple..just load each channel and it's done..getting the balance may take years however ... there are good YouTube videos just watch everything until you find one that you relate to I guess.

Thank you.
I like taking this image.... when Hubble came out with the Pillars of Creation you would think they were beyond us...but although not as magnificent I think it is just so cool we can at least get them...

I always enjoy your experiments Alex and I like how it's not only the data that you experiment with but the software you use as well. I've never used StarTools and I keep say it but I'll have to give it a shot one day. Is it mainly for processing or does it do stacking as well?

Thank you I am happy you enjoy my accounts on rule breaking.

I would encourage you to get a trial version of StarTools however I doubt if you will appreciate it in the trial period so perhaps bite the bullet and buy it..very cheap really and the folk are so helpful if you have questions. I didn't think much of it in the trial but decided just to buy it at a later stage and having made the investment stuck with it and got it working for me. It works without moving off the setting mostly and for noise it works very well..I am impressed ..and of late it is just getting better.

I don't think it stacks if it does I have missed it.

I had thought about Pixinsite but it seems not only expensive but you seem to need to buy a book and invest six months or more to learn a little ... I hope I reach a level where I can justify buying it from being able to appreciate why it is so highly favoured.

To me it would be like buying a Ferrari and never taking it over 160 kph sure I can impress folk with my car but really being real I can't use it to its capability.

And really I doubt if I will out grow StarTools.

But it's a long way from manually guided 10 minute photos processed in only Photoshop back in the old days.
Stacking was just coming in as I was getting out ..way back.

Hi Alex. I have been using the trial version of Startools for a week or so now just for fun using free data off the net. (Joe Mitsy's 32" Ritchey Chretien). You cant save the images being a trial but not my images anyway. I dont have a camera or really the time to do my own now but getting a kick out of learning a bit anyhow. Startools works well without having to tweak too much and are a good company focused on promoting astro more than about the dollar (great price for what you get). The demo is free for a long as you want so if I do end up with the gear I'll have a head start on the processing. Startools seems perfect for the imager who hasn't the time (or money) for the more complicated programs. Having fun with it.
Cheers, Richard

Buy it and save what you have done..after you play with them for a couple of hours they become yours...years ago I would download Hubble images and play at bringing out the detail of the little galaxies in the background..very satisfying.
I would love to see your work.
Alex
