My first post on these forums and my first asto photograph.
Taken with a Canon 350D with Canon 70-200mm f4/L mounted on a modified celestron 8 fork mount.. 12 x 30sec, 200mm, ISO400, f4 and Registax. I've a long way to go and learning heaps from this forum. Can hardly wait to get a telescope..
welcome to IIS Graham. thats a great first astro image. keep em coming. Following what houghy said, it is so truee! at first i thought the max i will spend on astro equipment is $600 and nothing more ... but......
Thanks for the nice comments and the encouragement chaps.. A few things I have to work on are getting better aquainted with Registax, doing something about the mount which runs about 1.5% fast and learning about dark frame subtraction.. all in good time.
if you are using Registax you are probably capturing as jpegs which is very "lossy" format. You are much better off capturing as a RAW file..but then you will need some software to process . IRIS is free-comes with an intimidating front end but works wonderfully and you can get an excellent step by step guide here :
Thanks Seeker, plenty of valuable information there to keep me going for a long time..
I use RAW for normal photography but took my images in JPG to simplify the procedure since I'm just starting. I have the new Adobe Lightroom program but I guess from what you are saying, IRIS takes the raw images directly..
