Rim Neb

Hi all,
I got this last night in good conditions...
41 x 3min subs with ED100 SW, mod Canon 50d, Iso800, AWB and Idas PLS filter.

I dont seem to be able to get much detail in the darker areas...
Is it processing, sub length ??
The histogram looks cut off but separated from the LHS and rises nicely.
I see some using a combination of 8min/Iso800 and 4min/400, maybe I can try that.

Suggestions welcome please.

Looks great.......I’d say it’s clearly time for you to move to the deep space section!

Hi Glenn,

I’m currently doing this target. I hope to finish off tonight with somewhere in the region of 15hrs total integration. It’s not an easy target to capture or process in my experience.

Yeah, it is supposed to be clear tonight but it’s not looking much like it at the moment. Fingers crossed. It is supposed to clear tomorrow too.

As far as exposure goes. I’m using 3mins @ iso 400. It’s bit of a tried and tested exposure for me. 800 is a bit of a colour eater and beyond 3mins I start getting amp glow. I have used 800 on some feint targets on my C9.25 reduced by 0.63 and it seemed ok but not with the f/4 newt. Having said all of that, at those settings and with the STC Duo, getting anything really decent takes 7 plus hours and more often over 10.

Rim neb doubled time

Well, I added more subs and got some improvement. Went from 43 to 87 x 3min at 800Iso
Reduced star bloat and improved the rim features.

Definitely an improvement Glen. Another clear one tonight. Maybe an opportunity to get some more hours
