First try of Eta Carina in Ha

Hi all,
Had a go with my Ha clip in filter about 2 weeks ago during the full moon.
I've got some bad stacking artifacts but I tried cropping but lost the framing so I left the image alone.
I'll go back through the stacking process and try to work out the error but I'm pretty happy with the detail and what Ha picks up.
Not sure if it's perfect focus which is so hard to do with the filter in.
Can't wait to get some RGB and combine with Ha.
Didn't really do much processing, have no time lately.
Got guiding around 1 arcsecond which I think is OK

20 x 5 min lights
Darks, Flats, Bias Subtracted
800 ISO
Canon EOS 450d
Skywatcher BD 150mm

Guided with PHD2
Stacked in DSS
Processed in Photoshop

Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy,

That’s a really great effort. Its interesting to see the result of using a single bandpass on a bayer matrix too. I thought it might look grainy but it doesn’t at all, it’s nice and smooth.

Re: Artifacts. The only one I can clearly see is the frame line up the top. I’d say that’s been caused buy the camera rotating at some point thoighout the session. I’d be looking to see if there’s any frames with a rotation.

Re: Guiding. Your stars are round...... 1” is going to be below your pixel size anyway so I’d be happy with that.

Well done Andy ! Keep it up

That’s a great image and well processed
Guiding looks good too, nice a smooth pulse corrections , dec is drifting a little bit above and below but still very good. What mount are you using ?
I noticed your PHD2 display is missing SNR of guide star , Calibration symbol ( Cal) and the ball (&#127761 Are you aware of that ??

Thanks Ryan, and Martin.
There's definitely rotation but normally I don't have to crop. Ill go through my subs when I get time and find the culprit.
Martin I did a screenshot in the morning after the Guiding was turned off so its only the timeline etc.
My mount is a Heq5 pro with a belt mod. I haven't done PE yet so i'm using the previous owners PE but not sure if that applies because im using EQmod to control the mount.
I should spend some time with the guiding assistant and check if my PE is correct but time is so precious at the moment I don't even comment on both of your fantastic images you put up.
Cheers for looking
Andy

Nice image! Is the Dec swinging due to polar alignment?

Thanks Marc and Chris,
PA was done using sharpcap using the guidescope.
Normally I get it as good as the seeing is but maybe alignment between the scope, mount, and guide scope could be out a little so there may be error in the alignment.
Im looking at a little scope directly on the mount as square as possible to the dovetail. doing a polar align, the removing this and putting my main scope on and ignoring and PA error it might have because its the mount that needs Polar alignment not the scope.
Cheers
Andy

Hi all,
just checked settings in Sharpcap.
In the polar alignment settings "estimate automatically from timezone " was ticked.
This was Melbourne coordinates which is about 380 km away ( 0.8 deg S and 4 deg E from here).
A bet this caused an error in the PA.
Fixed now to my coordinates but yet to try.
So many things to remember to do
Cheers
Andy

A couple of little tweaks which you have already identified that will improve things, but overall it's a solid image. There's something appealing about the amount of contrast you been able to capture. I really like it as a standalone B&W image. Well done!
