Perfect mirror '' V " lesser mirror shock !

This must be an example of a Paradox , a perfect mirror performs less sometimes .
Iv'e come across this before regarding splitting doubles But getting better resolution shocked me

From rating mirrors by Mel Bartels
A perfect mirror results in 84% of the light in the Airy disk and 16% of the light in the rings. A less than perfect mirror places less light in the Airy disk and more in the rings. (Incidentally, the Airy disk can shrink for a bad mirror, resulting in better resolution for very fine detail in certain cases).

Opinions please

Bobby .

LOL... You should get a job in the marketing dept of Celestron, who published a technical paper proposing it was sufficient to put 90% of the light within a "circle of confusion", and carefully avoided actually defining the diameter of that "circle of confusion". Mel Bartels “less than perfect” is not defined, and it sounds suspiciously like someone with a fast newtonian trying to justify a big fat secondary obstruction.

Hello Wavy ,
Sorry for the late reply .

I'm no fan of systems using large secondary's , best visual newts I ever had were a 6" F/10 & a 8" F/7.2

A question for you , Can a 190mm Mac/newt match the visual performance of a 6" Apo refractor in a side by side test regarding resolution ?

Cheers & Beers
Bobby

Yeah!

What's the go, dude!

I've known you for years, shared hours under the stars, and been to your place, but I STILL only know you as Wavy!

I reckon his name is Rumpelstiltskin... or Hannibal.

Could always be Vivian, or Marilyn, [as in John Wayne].
