Space Day! (05/05/05)

Today is Space Day! (first Thursday of May). To celebrate NASA has released a composite of Hubble + Spitzer images of M104 (The Sombrero) ...Here

A second Link shows each image from the Hubble (visible light) and Spitzer (InfraRed light) and the combined image.

Happy Space Day!!

I recommend looking at the 3000x1681 jpeg of the combined image Here

Takes awhile to download even on DSL but is well worth it...

Indeed, the two red spirals(?) down in the left corner caught my eye. I wonder if they're orbiting each other? ....destined to eventually smash into one another? Also, all the faint fuzzies that are in the background....possibly *billions* of light years away.... simply amazing stuff!!

I wondered if the two red galaxies are actually the same galaxy, the light from which has been split somewhere on its journey to earth???

Truly awesome sight. I have immediately set it as my wallpaper!

On the Hi-Res Visible only shot it looks as though each spiral has different structure.... looks as though there might even be an exchange of matter occuring ??
