Solar Observing with a PST

With a bit of a clear patch, before the afternoon thunderstorms set in I took the opportunity to catch a look at the sun.
At first the views were a little disappointing, that was until I got the filter tuning just right & swapped to an 8 mm Teleview Radian.
What a difference
Not being much of an Astro-photographer, but still wanting to share the beauty of this view (which i cant get out of my head) I have attached a (crude) sketch.
Sunspot 944 is in itself interesting having survived 5 solar rotations !
Picking up a new # each time it comes back into view
I hope someone out there might be able to image this.

Had another look today & the major prominence is still large & plain to see, with the minor ones having faded away.
It is a real treat to have a PST to play with.

Hi Ian, nice sketch. It's refreshing to see someone having a go at sketching there observations. Was the PST hard to tune? and did you have to re-tune as your observations progressed? Just been reading about the difference in pole temperatures on the Sun.

G'day Mick, good to hear from you again.
There is a very fine band in the tuning of the filter where the prominences are visible, the view of the surface of the sun is better with a white light filter IMHO, but seeing the prominences with a PST is a Buzz !
