de vliegende Hollander - IC 4628

The Flying Dutchman is a legendary ghost ship that can never make port and is doomed to sail the oceans forever. Sightings in the 19th and 20th centuries reported the ship to be glowing with ghostly light. If hailed by another ship, the crew of the Flying Dutchman will try to send messages to land, or to people long dead. In ocean lore, the sight of this phantom ship is a portent of doom.

South of Antares, in the tail of the nebula-rich constellation Scorpius, lies emission nebula IC 4628. Nearby hot, massive stars, millions of years young, irradiate the nebula with invisible ultraviolet light, stripping electrons from atoms. The electrons eventually recombine with the atoms to produce the visible nebular glow, dominated by the red emission of hydrogen. At an estimated distance of 6,000 light-years, the region shown is about 250 light-years across, spanning an area equivalent to four full Moons on the sky. The nebula is also cataloged asGum 56 for Australian astronomer Colin Stanley Gum, but seafood-loving astronomers might know this cosmic cloud as the Prawn Nebula. (text from APOD)

From my backyard in Melbourne, Australia
Processed with Astro Pixel Processor (amazing software)
Starnet ++ (even more amazing)
Topaz NR (gobsmakking!)
PS CC2019

Astrodon Tru-Balance E-Series Blue 36mm Blue Filter: 19x120"
Astrodon Tru-Balance E-Series Green 50mm Green Filter: 20x120"
Astrodon Ha 1.25 3nm: 12x600"
Astrodon O-III 3nm: 24x600"
Astrodon Red Tru-Balance E-Series Gen 2 Red filter: 10x120"
Astrodon S2 3nm: 31x600"

Integration: 12.8 hours

I re-collimated the 'scope, (again) - makes a huge difference to overall sharpness & contrast - big difference in learning too - compared to my version from 4 years ago!

This is a good one Andy, bold but not too panting like with lovely stars, perhaps just a little bit orange-cyan bichromatic but not too crunchy and broad in the processing, so it still looks like a gaseous nebula, nice job

We could put our recent images on the table and have a yummy spread of curry lobster and tropical prawn (looks more like Scampi or Yabbi) and mango salad

Looking very Andy colour wise A wealth of detail in there and definitely a step up from your previous attempt. A 10"F/4 certainly helps with sucking in the photons and increasing that detail however

A very very smooth and classy image.

You really have this narrowband gig down pat.

Greg.

Cheers Mike - My workflow has recently been further improved with the addition of Starnet++ and Topaz N/R - Sharpen Ai which combine beautifully with PSCC 2019. These have enabled me to produce much cleaner results than before.
MMM - maybe a thai seafood curry

Thanks Col - this big light sucker is a formidable beast! Must say I'm pretty happy with the resolution on this one.

Thanks very much for your kind words Greg. Sometimes I want to go back and reprocess everything from the past knowing what can be produced with these new tools, but then it's an evolutionary process isn't it? - we all continue to learn, upgrade & adapt. Keeps it interesting!

One of your very best.

The handling of the intricate dusty detail in the bottom part of the image is especially rich and appealing.

Cheers M&T - the new workflow appears to be paying off - mind you, bright objects such as this are easier to image - not sure where to go next!

BTW - how's progress with your camera?

Lol - I feel your pain - but my Astrosystems toys help a lot with getting collimation sorted now.

4 years ago I was pretty happy with that image - wonder what could be done 4 years from now as technology advances so quickly for us?

Personally I think the colour palette from 4 years ago was nicer. Not really a fan of yellow and blue, but each to their own. The detail is nice and not over sharpened.
