ABC 8:30pm Tonight: Lightning

A must-watch show on ABC tonight at 8:30pm.

Should be great viewing for the storm chasers amongst us.

My wife gathered me up from my computer to watch it, a great presentation, seems lightning may have been a great contributor to life forming on earth. Also the point made that lightning is increasing over large cities as they expand due to the heating and pollution they produce, interesting. Might pay to dismantle your large Dobs when lightning is about!!

I found it a little boring, I have watched many storm related doco's and this one followed pretty much the same lines as the rest. For those that don't usually watch this sort of thing it can be quite educational and informative but for those that have seen a few it was like watching re-runs for the 100th time... Sorry just couldn't enjoy it.. 2.5 stars out of 10 from me.

I was inspired by incites in that the show provided more explanations in my Gravity Rain Universe (the one I am building at the moment) (as it did as to the results from being struck by it..has not effected me ..much)
I have looked at the sprite thing briefly (on the net very interesting stuff) and am happy to report they can be explained by the gravity rain thing .(Gravity rain is a wild concept of mine without many supporters and is the reason you should never talk to me in person ) (if you have got this far you will know about and no doubt stop reading ..if you have not stopped already. )
If one sees the inflow of gravity rain trying to get thru the Earth, storm clouds provide a slight barrier on their course. If you look at the pictures of sprites and lightning and imagine the inflow of GR is slowed when hitting a storm cloud . The GR particles have been travelling for a long time thru space but now meet a slight barrier… a storm cloud..it seems the presence of more particles in a storm cloud either via ice particles or particles pollution is enough for the GR particles to interact creating sprites above and lightning below the storm cloud . Like cars running down the freeway but an accident happens to slow the traffic..The glow is the evidence of slowed GR, it seeks a path where it can find the “emptiest” (of gr particles) space to continue its speedy trip thru the planet, hence sprites and lightening, evidence of the least congested paths ,. If you look at a lightning flash with an associated sprite you will notice the flash then the sprite above the clouds. The lightning allows some more gr particles to continue, as they get going, a movement in the traffic results immediately in the cloud above , showing the course of gr particles (sprite formation) moving into the opened road..as it were…(imagine how hot it must get as they are forced closer together within the planet before passing with a little less energy right thru it)…. yes I know its wild but you must understand I can see it so clearly in my mind that it is real to me . AND without looking at GR for so long it is perhaps me alone who can understands it and accepts it ..it is for that reason and that reason only I pursue the idea as so far it is the only “novel” idea I can truly lay claim to . Unfortunately I suspect that if the penny ever drops with the legitimate scientific community it will not be me who came up with the idea but that Dr A’s greatest blunder was in fact his greatest incite . So until the world recognises the facts as I see them I will have to keep on this case . I had hoped by now someone would step up and claim it as their idea and I could let it go home to be looked after by them . But it seems not to be the case ..so I must care for it until I find it a good home.. unfortunately it may be a fully grown animal if I keep caring for it .
So if one can imagine a Universe in which gravity rain is a reality (for example my Universe) I think you can with effort see the picture as I see it..rather than try to shoot it full of holes simply try to see what I see.. You don’t have to judge it right or wrong just imagine it ..to make me happy if nothing else ..
I just suspect that it is the confused state of gravity rain particles slowed to reveal their presence that produces the visible display of energy, as they now are going all over and losing energy from colliding occasionally with another “driver” or runing into a parked car (ice or polution particle) having had to merge traffic after their long long trip, in some cases the other end of the Universe (still working on the fence line. ) .
If you confine your gaze to the storm cloud generating its energy without seeing an external GR particle force at play you miss what I see ..I think the energy of lightning is mostly coming from “out there” and merely manifests when the barrier is met . That is perhaps unfortunate perhaps not .

Wow did you take those?
Details! Camera? Lens? Exposures?

The 2nd one looks familiar, i'm sure i've seen a similar lightning shot from almost the exact same location.

ah, maybe that's why it looks familiar. I remember the green arc in that second shot. I'm sure i've seen them before - I don't think they were taken last night.

The second was on www.news.com.au but removed because it was not of that storm that went through Sydney. The actual photograph was taken a few years ago. It looks like the rest were taken at the same time.

Before anyone asks the green thing on the second pic is actually internal lens reflection not a streamer.

Well not withstanding being taken in as to who did the shots they are indeed very good shots irrespective of their origin .
Anyways have been reading up on “sprites” and here is a link to NASA’s view if anyone is interested in them .

http://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/...5/sprites.html

there is much more but goggle if you want more but its very interesting stuff .
