Eta Carina Nebula - High Colour High Detail

Hi all,

Here's Version 2 of my recent Eta Carina pic.

This version of the image isn't really the colours we expect to see but they
are colours detected in the original images. Normally I would try to balance the colours so they appear how we expect but in this case I've pushed colours, contrast, details and levels to produce this colourful shot.

In my humble opionion there appears to be blue reflection nebula skirting
the dark dust lanes!

Just for comparision I've also attached a copy of the original version.
You can see higher res. images at

High Colour version: http://www.skylab.com.au/pmsa/ngc3372i.html
Regular version: http://www.skylab.com.au/pmsa/ngc3372g.html

Image is a 27-minute exposure (9 x 3 min. sub-frames).

Telescope is a modified 12-inch f/5 Newtonian telescope on Losmandy Gemini
G-11 equatorial mount. At prime-focus is a Canon EOS 300D Digital (modified)
and focused with DSLR Focus. Autoguided with an SBIG 402 CCD on 4.5-inch f/9 guidescope using CCDSoft. 2" Baader Multi-Purpose Coma Corrector (MPCC). 2" Baader UV/IR Rejection Filter. Image Processing Iris, Photoshop.

Those are both absolutely wonderful images Paul – just gorgeous. Excellent technique in focusing, guiding and processing. Very impressive hi-res images, well worth a look.

However, I am very disappointed that you have stooped as low as resorting to auto-guiding – I thought you were a hard core manual guider? Oh well, I guess that leaves Scott to hold the fort eh?

Cheers

Dennis
