Celestro CGX measurement please
Hello,
Is there someone who has a Celestron CGX mount who could provide the vertical distance between where the mount touches / rests upon the tripod and the counterweight shaft centerline, if the shaft was positioned horizontally? (latitude 36.5 )

Sorry mine is on a pier, but it still sits on the pier top plate in the same way it sits on the tripod.. What is it exactly that you are trying to work out?

Mine is still on the tripod (if that is a factor) and I'm happy to measure.
Having said that, I'm confused as to what you'd like measured. Are you able to explain it again?

Thank you kind folk for responding. To be honest, I had quite some time myself trying to describe the measurement. I shall try again:
Let's place the CGX mount on a flat horizontal surface (the floor!).
Position the weight shaft so that it is also horizontal (parallel to the floor).
What is the vertical (shortest) distance from the shaft to the floor?

It will depend on your latitude, as dialed into the mount Altitude setting. In theory it is different for most of us.

Would not dream of asking you to do that.
I will however appreciate getting any measurement you are able to make from your setup (the difference in latitude would not, i believe, be that significant).

This is the last I am going to say on this thread. The CGX countweight bar screws into the mount head, but the head pivots on the RA bearing, the DEC bearing being on top of the head, pivots on its bearing. It is not possible to measure from the RA pivot point which intersects the counterweight bar, because it is internal to the case and the bar may not actually cross that point anyway. Assuming the RA was moved to the point where the counterweight bar was parallel with the base, you can't measure that distance because you can not locate the pivot point inside the case. The point where the bar exits the case would be no where near the pivot point.
This is a crazy request in my opinion, and seemingly has no bearing on any aspect of mount setup, or decision making in relation to a purchase. The OP's continued unwillingness to explain what exactly this is needed for, makes it all seem like some prank inflicted on people willing to help. I'm out of this.
