Heating Pads

Anybody can recommend a couple of suppliers/manufacturers of heating pads for dew control such as primary and secondary heating? Thanks.

I used a Kendrick secondary heater on my RC08, it was excellent. What sort of scope are you heating?

Yea Marc when i was imaging I also used the Kendrick heaters they come in all sizes an are excellent.

Not real cheap but worth every cent

Ha ! Straight from the Think Different™ Department.

Look up “reptile head pads”.

There are even chemical-based ones (no electricity needed) that run for days when activated, and some types that have a sticky pad so you could slap one on the underside of your OTA, no need for Velcro or tape

Never thought of those Nick we actually use one to keep our Tropical Frogs warn during the winter.

I have used a 12V hairdryer at Bretti, it was good for chasing away the first traces of fogging on the mirrors. Use it sparingly on low setting, it does suck the amps from your battery.

There are a few problems with hair dryers that I found when getting rid of dew on the secondary mirror.
First make sure it does not blow dust onto the mirror or into the focuser and onto the coma corrector, I found out that the hard way.

Second, yes it gets rid of the dew but the optimal focus point changes and for the next 5 minutes I find I'm chasing the focus until it stabilises.

After 15 minutes its back to dew again, so I don't bother with the hair dryer anymore, a dew heater is much better and stable.
