Test image of Sharpless 308 OIII

This is a test image just 1.3 hrs of 5 minute subs using ZWO ASI1600mm Pro camera at unity gain. Pretty happy with the fact that I resolved this dim but beautiful object. Looking at it I need shorter subs or lower gain to try not to saturate the bright stars and more of them to increase resolution and lower the noise. My first mono OIII shot.

Very nice Bruce. I tried to get this object with my dslr and didn't do so well, but it occurred to me that I might try higher ISO and sacrifice dynamic range in the hope of getting more faint detail.

Thanks Pat and Casstony,
It is very difficult to get anything really with a DSLR. One of the finest examples of photographing this object i found over on Astrobin by the very talented Equinoxx. This animation showcases different filter blends in different combinations. You will note when its just RGB (visible colour), the nebula disappears completely! amazing stuff. The link takes a few moments to load be patient its worth it. The link is HERE

Very nice!

Is that some amp glow I'm seeing on the right? If you run your darks again, you may get even more out of it.

Best

Interesting link Bruce. I did manage to get the brightest portions with the dslr at ISO 400/TS72 so I'll give it a shot at maybe ISO 1600/TS115 some day to see if I can do better.

Thank Marcus. Not sure if it’s amp glow or maybe just more clouds of oxygen. Looking at various other images. There is still a lot going on in the background. Anyway, I will call it as done for a test shot. I’m away for the next new moon weekend so it will remain on my list for next year. 3 hrs each of OIII and Ha I think would do the job. Thanks for looking.
