Psycho lady astronaut
Where's the thread on this news item from yesterday??
I logged on today expecting a huge and humourous thread about it to enjoy. But nothing.
Have I missed it?

A shame really, a sad end to her career.
Not good PR for NASA either.. seen heaps of jokes about her on TV.

I think there is something deeper at work here. Her plan looked very much like she was suffering from some sort of delusion or compulsion or both. If I was really going to murder someone, I would get far nastier hardware easily available in the US, not a sharp object rubber hose etc.

I read that is standard attire for all astronauts during takeoff and landing.
"Nowak raced from Houston to Orlando wearing diapers in the car so she wouldn't have to stop to go to the bathroom, authorities said. Astronauts wear diapers during launch and re-entry."

Space nappies.....
From someone so obviously high functioning to be an astronaut, she made a comical meal of it .... lucky for her intended victim she did! Maybe its better these tendencies came to light on terra firma, rather than onboard the ISS!

Very true, Lee.. wouldn't have wanted her to go psycho up in space.. it would've set back the shuttle mission by years!

Maybe I'm just suspicious, but could the nappies be part of a plan to cast doubt on guilt or to help establich a fake alibi?
Speculation: ..."your honour, my client could not possibly have driven from X to Y in the time it is alleged..."
It's all very sad really... even my speculation! (What mistrusting soul!)

It is an unusual story and I am sure that there are many parts of it that we will neither know about nor understand...
I suspect that this has the folks at NASA pretty stressed right now trying to understand the hows and whys...and trying to determine what changes need to be made to the selection process...
One simple solution would be to pick me for the next mission (or the one after that)...I promise I won't "freak out" if they pick me...

For those like myself who hadn't heard anything about this story, here's a reasonably informative news link:

Well, I suppose it shows that even Astronauts are human too. Not Superheroes that are infallible.
Sad, sad, sad.
Makes me think about the disgusting lifestyle of the Astronaut (played by Jack Nicholson) in the movie 'Terms of Endearment'.
Maybe she got 'Space Lunacy'

Scarey to think what "love" will make a person do.
I wonder what happened between them in the ISS?
Think of her poor hubby and kids. They'll never ever be able to forget this.

Some of the headlines in the papers so far:
"Lust in Space"
"Houston we have a problem"
It's comical and I shouldn't laugh and it does illustrate they are still human beings. It is sad and tragic, given the mental , physical and academic skills that one must possess to make it to the space program, and then in one short moment of madness throw it all away. Its sad for her children too.
I doubt very much NASA would re-instate her in the program. The risk would be too high, regardless of how much psycho-analysis, treatment she untertakes and not to mention possible jail time.
The only way I could see her re-instated is NASA ascertaining how much money they have spent on her and the skills she may have and think it was too much to throw away. That said, I'd doubt there be difficulties filling the vacancy with a rookie.
