Thumbs up Jupiter teaser - this morning 3rd Feb

Hey all

Here's my first image out of my new setup - the 12" GSO on the EQ6, taken this morning at about 5:40am or so.

My alignment wasn't accurate enough for the 5x powermate (too much drifting and correction required), and I wanted to get something without playing around with drift aligning. The seeing was quite good and Jupiter was getting higher.

So I used the 3x barlow, in the 12" newt.

This is just one sample out of 4 avi's i've done a rough look at. There's still 3 more avi's I haven't touched yet.

Very happy with the detail, especially for the shorter focal length. The GRS looks very nice, and there's a red bar to the left of it. It looks like there's a nice white spot in the NEB too.

The overnight temperatures were quite warm which helped the mirror reach close to ambient too, I reckon.. although I haven't got any temperature sensors on this beast yet.

I've only processed this on the laptop, will have another go when I look at the other avi's on the proper LCD on Monday.

Unfortunately the green channel is slightly overexposed to the south of the SEB And I stuffed up the codec when recording, so it ended up as 720x480 (!?) so I had to resize it to 640x480 in virtualdub while saving as BMP's.

15 fps, 1/15s exposure. 45 seconds on each channel. 330 frames stacked on each channel.

Thanks for lookng. I like what the future holds for this 12"!

Mike.

That is very exciting!

In terms of detail, that's the best Jupiter by anyone so far this season, by a long measure.

I agree. You're in for a great season with that new cannon

Thanks guys! Really happy with the new scope. Will be selling the 10" very soon (tonight or tomorrow morning).

Bird, no new images lately cause of weather! Friday night was the first clear night since last Sunday!

David, final will be processed in the morning on the LCD.

Thanks for your feedback.

Can't wait to see the final version Mike.

BTW will the 10" have your signature on it?
It's a piece of IIS history.
