Spotty Helix

Got black spots through an image again - I think it's dew starting to form around dust grains. I'll check through the subs tomorrow.

At this point dark matter is as good an explanation as any
I don't know what the spots are. Earlier images that night show them too, as in the one below.

You might have a special camera that can capture dark mater and gravity holes. Forget about the Hadron collider you got one in your back yard.
Or it could be dust and dew.
Other than that it's a really good image
Cheers

I'd put my money on a dirty sensor. Sometimes lubricant from your camera's mirror mechanism can spray onto the sensor. Give your sensor a clean and see if it makes a difference.

+1 for sensor window clean. Spots aside, that's a really great image! You have the faint outer loop too.

I was a little surprised at how well it showed up for a standard dslr.

What's the best way to clean the sensor in a DSLR?

I know how to lock the mirror up and I'm familiar with cleaning eyepieces and objectives.
Thanks for the comments too

A flat should show if its the sensor I expect.

I think it could be dust and dew...photoshop them out

The work load sure gets high as you do more in this game..with the narrow band you have 7 different filters..so every thing is times seven..I don't know what needs what so its seven until I learn more.

.I am not sure if you take darks and flats for all of then...probably to get into everything in the future will I get darks and flats for each.

.and in the case of Orion I guess a variety of exposures.

.mmm 15 seconds at small gain times seven then darks and flats then I guess some 30 seconds with darks and flats and some at 2 minutes with darks and flats phew... I knew there was a reason I wanted not to go narrow...some much to do....and I still have to work Rays chart into things to work out exposure and gain...

Damn it I should have just bought a Hubble coffee table book full of photos.

All I do is astronomy. . buying stuff, setting up new stuff, learning about new stuff, fixing stuff, adjusting stuff and then stacking on pappy (the desk top) and processing on lappy...I need a fridge stove and toilet in the room to save time

Damn... its clear outside now and I feel compelled not to waste it but I need sleep.

When I miss a night it goes crook the following night...I want to set up the new camera on the eight inch ...maybe get both mounts going with a camera on each.

My Canon 600D never had spots like the Nikon d5600 does, but it sure needed darks. The Nikon doesn't really need darks but looks like it will need flats (for the spots).

The Canon seemed to have a much better sensor cleaning function than Nikon.

I've gotten a little deeper in Alex, with the purchase of Stuart's SXVF-M25C, but I'm ready to run back to the dslr if I start to lose my mind.

Flats are surprisingly important, though, with modern cameras you can probably get away without darks. Bias and flats should make a big difference, taken at the lowest ISO and median combined at least.

Hi Tony
After using Startools on my images the dslr seems not too bad.
Keep up the good work.
