I'm staying with my sister-in-law Lyn and her husband Graham in Pt MacQuarie for a few days, last night was a general viewing night for them and other rellies, so what do we look at? The moon of course!
Started out just visual, then after a while I wondered if my DX would work at prime focus (haven't tried this before) so I dropped it in and hooked up the laptop. Well, the view was stunning. I definitely have to do more widefield lunar stuff, without the powermate everything is 6x easier :-)
After a while I started recording, so there will be some very nice widefield lunar images coming up in this thread over the next few days.
At prime focus I can fit about 1/6 of the moon in the field of view, eg Mare Serentatis just fits. At this scale it's feasible to try a lunar mosaic in one night...
One more, no title yet, and only 500 frames stacked. I'm experimenting with resampling 3x original size to process and then reducing later. Seems to be ok but takes a loong time on this laptop...
The best thing is that us nutters are continually trying something new in order to improve the image.....sooooo much fun!
It is also great that we can get so wrapped up in high mag stuff and then along comes a comet and almost no image has captured the complete beauty of naked eyeing it!
