Easter Egg

The sky's grandest globular is egg shaped....hence seemed like an appropriate
post for this Good Friday.

Grabbed over a lazy hour or two with the moon headed toward full....but in a nicely transparent sky, also thankfully at a very northerly declination.

Thanks Marc, Louie....I'm still tinkering with the data...some tweaks of the colour and sampling to present the image a little better on the web....

FYI the field is effectively un-cropped. Alluna's FFR is giving some really tidy
star images out the the edge of the 16803.

That's an excellent image Peter! I've been wanting to image this for years now but still haven't done it :/
I'll have to setup my Mewlon at some point with my D810 and play around with clusters. Certainly won't have stars as nice as yours though with an uncorrected DK!!

Great shot!

Apt title

Yesterday I was in a chocolate shop in Adelaide and an Easter egg on display was covered in hundreds and thousands. A lot like your image!

I just found a pic of it on the web.......

Cheers,
Damien

Amazing focus and processing to achieve/depict star separation so close to the core. The large red and blue stars overlayed on the fine background of white/grey stars looks magnificent. Love your work Peter!

Ta Louie...as to why...

Probably due....

  • Zerodur optics.
  • Temperature controlled, zero focus tilt, secondary mirror focuser.
  • Auto-thermally controlled OTA cooling fans.
  • Guide chip next to the imaging chip in the same camera head.
  • imaging in a dome = no wind buffetting
....some boofheads would say "but it's so expensive" ...and they'd be right

...but hey, to make an omelette, you may have to break some eggs

As to how many you break...well...

Peter your dedication produces jaw dropping results and there is more to it than the money...it takes a variety of skills and abilities to make it all work beyond the money...I could not do it money aside.
Your image is inspiring.
