M83 from Hoth

Sob story to be read in the equipment forum

Anyway, I've put the issue down to non-visible atmospheric ice after the passage of a cold front - weird star profiles, odd spike, a harsh green tinge (removed in my processing) and generally difficult to process (so hard extracting ANY cyan before it starts to look faker than Donald Trumps hair).

Anyway, it is what it is (ca-ca ), but I had to make SOMETHING out of the 3 hours data...before I hit the Shift-Delete key sequence anyway

So, tada - M83 imaged from Hoth.

At the insistence of His Excellency Logan, I had further technicolour yawned on the thing: https://www.astrobin.com/full/338934/C/

I love at least how this tiny Tak can pull out a buzzillion background galaxies still...the 85mm that thinks it's an AP Hondas

Here was my imaging site:

Awesome! Nice for 3 hours at a light polluted site! Could do with a bit more blue saturation though IMO otherwise its great!

You didn't read young man where I said I couldn't pull the cyan...tsk tsk Grasshopper.

Actually, looking at the Subaru image, there is not a lot of cyan in it anyway, nor in Robert Gendler's image: https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap151008.html

Non, c'est merde. Je connais c'est vrai.

But, for an 85mm telescope with an OSC CCD in an LP red zone ...OK, it's mediocre

I keep expecting more terrible than it really is. You excel at expectation management, Lewis. You make us expect the worst and then post half decent images

You've got some pretty fine details in the dust lanes there. Well done!

I’ve played with it so much now it seems processed to an inch of its life (maybe in flatline now). Needless to say bringing out much in an f/5.3 85mm instrument with an OSC CCD is a challenge. Wait till you see what I imaged last night - pushing the boundaries of sanity with such a setup (especially with a 65% moon)
