LPI not working after install. Please help !! :)

Hi all

I purchased an LPI from a nice member here on IIS, and after installing it she won't go. It worked in its former employ just fine, so I know the HW's OK. The target device is an IBM laptop with adequate memory and disk running Windows 2000 Professional.

The Meade Autostar Suite disk seems to initiate the installer OK, and everything loads as described. I skip the .NET file over-writes because I already have the .NET framework installed.

As soon as the software section installs, I plug in the LPI as requested, whereupon it is meant to go and find and install the driver. I leave the CD in the drive and tell the driver routine to look there. It doesn't find it. I tell it to go look for it at MSoft across the internet. Same deal - no go.

If I go to the AutoStar Suite Astronomers Edition menu and try to fire up the LPI software, it complains that I must first install the "full version" of Autostar Suite. What gives???? Isn't that what you get with the LPI?

Has anyone any ideas so that I might be able to get this workng for Lostock this week?

Cheers - and thanks in advance

Chris

Hi Chris

I installed the full version of Autostar Suite (minus the optional star catalogues) and the LPI worked fine on my IBM ThinkPad R40 Win XP Pro, SP1 and also SP2.

So, it appears you may need to do the full install?

Cheers

Dennis

There were some updates to Autostar Suite and I think its name may have later changed to Envisage, although I didn’t install Envisage.

It looks like the Meade website now wants you to become a member before you can download the latest version here:

http://www.meade.com/autostar/update/index.html

I have a 4Meg “UpdateAsSuite 3.16.EXE” update file if you would like me to e-mail it to you, and from memory, it requires the original install from the CD for it to work.

Cheers

Thanks for replying Dennis

After inserting the CD, autoplay fires up the install screen, and the only relevant install item is labelled "Install Autostar Suite Astronomers Edition". There are others, but they refer to the Moon map install, Messier interactive catalogue, etc.

It seems to install OK - but comes across a pre-existing (and later) .NET framework so I tell it not to overwrite the newer files. It then installs the MS Text to Speech engine as requested.

I joined the Meade 4M club thingy and downloaded the Version 4 update, but upon firing it up I get a message stating that it can't find the original installation in order to upgrade it.

I'm thinking a problem with the installer screwing around with .NET and DirectXas installed on my Thinkpad's Win2kPro. I'm going to try it tomorrow on my Fujitsu Tablet PC which at least runs WinXP SP2 which is a known quantity.

I'll let you you!

Cheers
Chris

From memory, I think you have to have .Net 2.0 or above and DirectX 9.0 and above.

Trusting my memory here, I just loaded the drivers and PHD guiding with the LPI and use it to guide my field mount, a GM-8 with stepper motors and wide angle camera

Cheers
