F1 2018 pre season testing

For the F1 fans, it is day three in Barcelona and they are getting heavy snow, compliments of "The Beast from the East". I cannot recall this happening in Barcelona given its location.

I won't watch it anymore anyway. Today it's sanitised and become a television showcase for cities willing to pay the price. When a video game kid can walk in and get paid millions, that says it all for me.

The Foxtel swindle more or less effectively removed my eyeballs from F1 when I could not watch all races live on FTA TV. I had not even noticed that the swindle had escalated to only the AGP being shown on free to air.

What turkey in FOM let that happen? It seems to be an extension of Bernies "Not interested in anyone who cant afford a Rolex" attitude.

Practical effect, I will not watch another GP unless I can geo dodge my way into their subscription service, which I would have been quite prepared to pay for if it launched here. It also means that (And you have to ask, for how many other people) in his formative years if he turns out to be an avid motorsport fan, one motorsport category my 9 year old son is NOT watching is F1. Great way to cut yourself off from your next generation of hopefully paying customers.

I think the same is happening with V8 Supercars as well, only selected races will be shown live on Ch Ten.

Afl is going south as well!
It seems we get less and less coverage every year.
Might have to move to tassie. It's all going their way.
At least we still have the stars for now....

F1 is a business like any other and they make good money from it.
It’s their choice if they want to sell tv rights to their product.
I pay for Foxtel so I can watch every F1, Indycar, V8 and tons of other motorsports live.
That’s my choice and the product is awesome.
I did note though that the new owners of F1 have just launched a paid online streaming service for $12 a month in the UK.
Maybe that’s an affordable option for some here?

The problem is that it is not available in Australia. and I bet that it remains that way until the Foxtel deal expires.

Having looked into it again, bare minimum to get Foxtel in any form to cover it is $530 a year (The streaming only option) and it is unclear if that provides the same access as the traditional coverage, at the same cost in the first year and then $680 a year afterwards.

IMO the Foxtel deal plays us for mugs and I elect to cease watching completely rather than pay around four times what others in the word will do for similar coverage. We dropped Foxtel years ago as i object very strongly to paying very high costs for a catalog of largely very old content AND being hit wit as many ads as free to air TV. If the entire platform was ad free (Rather than just the likes of sports) I would reconsider.

It is those golden chalices they serve them in, isn't it Matt?

I just watch that sort of thing on livetv.sx. Can be a bit hit and miss, but I also get to watch the NBA, NFL, MLB, IPL, EPL, as well as a bunch of other 3-letter initials.

Hey I pay 5 bucks a month for NBL TV webcast for my son to see the matches live, check it out

We endured foxtel in Hastings, best thing we ever did was to get out of it. American centric drivel. Netflix is far better.

I've barely watched any f1 for yrs, will catch up on any interesting stuff on YouTube. Or use my snazzy geolocation bypass method if curious. Or just keep repairing fences, it's relaxing and satisfying

Damn shame about the F1 coverage

Just converted our house to a Foxtel package. Unlimited broadband, Basic TV which has 4x the number of free to air channels (and good ones too), free IQ3 box and router.

Telstra unlimited costs 99 bucks - I pay an outrageous 2 bucks more
