Sorry to hear you had a miss. A few days before the eclipse, we were considering driving 320km west to Narrandera. I had two friends staying with me from Sweden and Brisbane and so a bit of effort was in order. Relieved that in the end 50km was all that was required.
In 1985, I'd just moved to Canberra from Brisbane. A group from the AAQ organized by Peter Anderson went on an excursion to Siding Spring and would watch a lunar eclipse while there. I thought it was a good opportunity to catch up with them so I drove the 550km each way from Canberra. Cloudy of course!
