Lightning trigger settings

Hi Guys i have been loaned a lightning trigger that was purchased from IIS, i tried it yesterday in daylight hours when a lighting storm passed over and although it did fire when there was a good strike close by it was not captured on the image.

I am using a 50mm lens, with the camera setting set on TV and at about 15th of a seconds.

And like i said the bolt hit the ground quite close which triggered the unit, however it was not captured, so obviously the settings are not right.

Maybe i should stick to my old and trusted method, but i thought it might be worth a shot

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Best solution I’ve found is a trick my Panasonic GX85 has - it has a mode where records continuously snaps frames at 8FPS in a FIFO queue that holds 16 frames. When you press the shutter it keeps the frames for one second before and one second after the moment the shutter was pressed.

It’s original application was fast moving kids who can’t sit still for a second but also works for lightning nicely.

If you use longer exposure times you’ll get fewer frames.
