Jupiter January 11th

Ok, playtime's over, time to get down to business: Jupiter's back in town!

This morning I had another go, and was pleasantly surprised to see that it's just high enough pre-dawn to escape the murk. Another week or so and it should be getting quite good.

Hmm, another week... I guess that means Lostock!

cheers, Bird

Well done, Anthony.

Plenty of detail there despite the latitude.

You've even captured a few white spots in the Southern (? at top of image) polar region

You're inspiring me to go the big Saturn/Jupiter double tomorrow morn, although the jetstream map looks a little gruesome and today's heat will make it all the trickier

Excellent work, Anthony! What altitude (and time) was that captured at?

Really looking forward to what you produce in the coming months! 7 months of Jupiter, let's go!

Mike, time is on the image, though you have to do some mental gymnastics :-) Ok ok, it was about 5.20am.

Altitude, dunno - I'll look it up on xephem, seemed ike about 30 degrees?

Well... I stayed up all night to go the Big 3... and it looked like it was gonna happen until a band of cloud rolled through shortly after 4am and shut me down

Not to worry. The seeing was rubbish anyway. Captured a few Saturn and moon AVIs ... but they're not worth the effort.

Boy, it feels weird staying up all night and crawling into bed around dawn
