"Super Moon" and Earth at perihelion casuing larger range in tides at the moment -SMH
Peter Hannam reports today, Jan 2 2018, on how a combination
of the "super Moon" and the Earth being at perihelion is causing a
larger range in high and low tides at the moment.
Also Gary. This is the 3rd straight Full Moon Supermoon on January 31, 2018! This full moon also will be a Total Lunar Eclipse, going into the early hours of Feb 1st

Makes sense. I was fishing some time ago at the beach during a super moon, and the tide was very high. The beach virtually dissapeared. I think it was at december, so also close to perihelion.
