Southern Cross image

Hi all,

I was aligning my Sigma 70-200 lens on to my 16" a few nights ago and took a few images of Crux with a Canon EOS 10D and then stacked them..

The lens was set at 130mm FL & f3.5. 7 x 3 minute exposures were combined @ 800 ISO. It can be seen at:

Fantastic shot! Hope to see in an astro-mag sometime soon. That is publishing quality. Absolutely mindblowing depth of star field. I'd love to see some other large field shots if you have some!

Thanks for the positives guys.

Rod I got the lens a few months ago and haven't really utilised it as much as I should of - my main love lies with my 16". Anyhow, I plan to use the lens a lot more over winter when Sco/Sag is overhead. In the mean time attached is an image of the pot taken with it...

Cheers

John, I'm really looking forward to spending some time in Sag this winter. Look forward to seeing some of your shots from that region, too!

Orion never ceases to please. Thanks for that extra pic. Really nice.

That is brilliant John. The subtle hydrogen hue covers nearly the whole image. And you've picked out the horsehead as well. It puts all the nebulas into perspective and orientation better than just about any shot I've seen. Congratualtions on a great shot.

Thanks again guys - your words are sooo kind...

I should have included a URL link in the last email to it for a larger sized image. It is:

John, that is a beautiful photo(partial of orion)! have u printed it out in an enlarged format? I reckon that would be a very nice A1 photo mounted on a black background in a black frame!!!

Nice shots John, I use the same lens on my Pentax K , I just ordered an adapter so I can use this lens with my DSI, your shots have given me a great idea of what to expect image size wise from this setup.

thanks for sharing these.
regards
David.

Holy cow John, both of those are beautiful! I mean look at Orion, you've got the horsehead and the flame! What a great shot.
