Bintel Again..............

Well I don't often say to much about the various shops I go into, but I really have to give credit where credit is due.
Went into Bintel Sydney today to pick up some bits and order a new 16" Light bridge............
What a pleasant experience it is to shop there. I go there quite a bit and they always seem to make the time to stop what they are doing and talk to me about whatever I want at the time................very helpfull indeed.
I take my hat of to their good service

bintel

John

Yep - ditto. The first time I went in there, Don didn't know me from a bar of soap, yet spent nearly two hours with me explaining everything from EP formulae to star charts. They know what good service is - and Don didn't provide it to me at the expense of anyone else either. Great service - every time.

I think I will keep it so I can take it along to star parties etc with my CPC11.....
I still love the Visual advantage of the dob........but I also like the goto...I'm lazy
I think the 16" may be a bit big to move around to much without damaging it.
I will option up the 16 and put it in the planned observatory down one end with the Eq gear down the other....
Its nice sometimes to just pust around and have a look.

Hate to break up the Bintel love-fest, but I've had two recent dealings with them (in fact my only two dealings with them) and they may need to smarten up their on-line service. Ordered a Barlow on-line on 21 Sept 2006 and received order confirmation. Hadn't arrived by 2 October so I emailed them, and on 3 October I was emailed that they were out of stock and wouldn't have any in till 22/10. Cancelled order & ordered equivalent Barlow on-line from Andrews and it was here in 3 days. Very peeved as in the two weeks lost, Jupiter had slipped down into "not-worth-seeing" territory (I'll get it again later this year!).

On 23 December, ordered Astronomy 2007 book from Bintel and received order confirmation straight back. On 28 December received email that they were out of stock but would have more in "next week". Would have been nice to know straight away, and it's not like that item is a poor seller that has to be ferreted out from a dusty storage area.

Still waiting, but have given them the benefit of the doubt with the busy Christmas/New Year period.

Regionally-based people rely heavily on on-line services, and my experiences with other companies have been excellent. Even overseas - Hands-On-Optics in the US are really quick: just waited 6 working days for one order, and my brother had his order to Melbourne in the astonishing time of 3-working days (through post, no courier!). Work that one out.

Anyway Bintel, gimme me book!!

Cheers -

Definitely worth picking the phone up IRT ordering stuff from Bintel.

Most of the complaints I read are about orders placed on-line.

Might be an area where they need to lift their game. It's great and very convenient to order on-line... but only when the process is efficient and actually works!

I've had no probs when I've ordered over the phone though.

Definately better to phone Bintel, I called Melbourne from Perth on Wed 26 Dec only to get their answering machine, left my number and received a call from them the next morning at 8-30am Perth time, ordered and payed for a new 10:1 focuser the guy said he would run it straight to the Post Office and if he hadn't missed the first pick up I should get it late on the Friday. I received the parcel on the 2nd of Jan, on opening I found there was no mounting screws and called Bintel to check and spoke to the same guy I had ordered from and he appologised for missing the early pick up by 20 mins.
That to me is very good costomer service. As for e-mail orders, never tried it.
