Just an Observation

Hi All,

I for one, and i'm sure most IIS members constantly open and look at the beautiful images produced in both, Deep Space, and Solar Sysrem.

I study all the images, and hope that one day i may be as experienced as these talented imagers, and one day post some work of my own.

However, since i have been a member, i have noticed on two occossions, but definitly once, that the same image was posted by two different people, claiming that they had taken the image.

I hope actually that i have made a mistake here, and that this is not the case.

Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just a coincidence, that two images are the same.

Cheers Leon

Nope. Haven't noticed.

Plagiarism is a pretty poor practice, if that's in fact what has occurred?

It's also a fairly serious claim to make if you're unsure.

Would be very disappointing if it's true, and count heavily against the individual carrying it out.

I reckon the best policy is to simply question the person at the time of posting the image.

I know that's potentially embarrassing, but if you put an image out there on a website that isn't your own then it's already in the public domain

I wonder if it is possible that the person may have saved the image from the forum in an attempt to maybe Photoshop it themselves ( I think we have all done that from time to time!) ...trying to improve the original and then maybe mixed it up in their computer and reposted it thinking it was theirs ??
I dunno really, its I just can't picture (pardon the pun) any of the good people here doing that....maybe I'm wrong

Then maybe they are just very very similar.......I guess you can't re-compose the stars!!

cheers

Hi Guys,

I really hope that i am wrong, or that my eyesight is failing, but the similarity of both images were so close.

Maybe i had better leave it at that, and say no more.

Cheers leon

Same file size to the final bit?

After all, when imaging the same object with similar (or quite often the same) equipment from similar locations I guess that occasionally things will look pretty much the same

It'd be pretty unlikely, in a close-knit community, that it would happen. Perhaps if they had the same filename you might've seen a cached version from the previous imager?

Anyway if you can send me any examples, i'll take a look.

Sorry that i have stired the hornets nest, so to speak.

Mike i would rather not go into this any further, buy sending any info or images.
If, and i mean if, it has happened than the people would know who they are.

Cheers Leon

leon, if people are infact doing it (and that would be a shame) it may be enough to discourage them now to know that others are keeping an eye out

Leon, I'd say that if anyone posted an image of mine without giving me due credit, I'd be saying something at the time.

It's not a nice thing to do is it.
With such a small community you're bound to be found out.
Like with Strikers gear, it will come to the surface sometime sooner or later and the person/s will be sprung.

Hi Leon, in the end people will only hurt themselves. The whole idea of posting your images no matter how good or bad they may is to learn from others and better your skills in imaging.

cheers
