A One Night Swan

Clear nights have been so rare of late, I had given up looking. However last night there was an opportunity to grab some subs.

This is a quick narrowband (SHO) image of M17 the Omega Nebula (aka the Swan Nebula) in Sagittarius. Camera was the ASI1600MM-C, running at -25C. Taken with a gain setting of 139. as the target is such a bright object, sub times were reduced to try to prevent blow-out. Subs consisted of: 24x120s Ha, 12x120s Oiii, and 24x120s Sii. Processed in DSS and Photoshop CC. I have tried to dial back and balance my usual lurid colours.
There appears to be a little sensor tilt evident in the upper left, or maybe the reducer/corrector was not spaced properly.
Scope was a TS Photoline 115mm APO, reduced to f5 for this sequence. Mount is the CGX.

Turned out quite nice Glen. Tilt can be a bit of a pain but it isn't too bad, always feels better to get it all perfectly square though. Nothing better than looking around the subs as they're coming in and every one being perfect

Pretty good for a single night. The tilt seems pretty minor and should be "easy" to correct. Probably about .5mm on the offending corner wherever that is on your camera in relationship to the image (its unlikely to be the same corner probably doubly reversed - ie left/right reversed and up down reversed).

Greg.

Well done Glen, you can always get the better of the weather gods....eventually.

Nice image, I like the subtle glow around the main nebula.

Looking good Glen not that I (personally) feel there's anything to forgive, but I reckon you could be forgiven for a bit more lurid with this one

really fine image Glen - attractive colour and depth, particularly for such a short total exposure
