R136

Looking back at some of my old old data, like.... 18 months ago! Okay it is old for me as this is data from one of my first images! This is just a crop of R136 from one that I had processed a long time ago, going to see if I can track down all of the original files. I have found that I am lost some of my originals back from the early days :/
At any rate, I have always been quite happy with how this crop turned out with 4 hours of RGB from the red zone. Being in the northern burbs and shooting the LMC in the southern skies is never a good idea

Just a little bit noisy Colin. Other than that minor criticism I think it's a very good Tarantula.

You are correct Steve it is a bit noisy, I would like to reprocess it but I'm not sure if I still have the original data :/

Eventually found some subs from way back when. Some were calibrated, some where not, none had flats! All a bit of fun really. Still has nothing on Mike and Trish's 20" work on R136.

The Boot-squashed Tarantula (just picking on the slight mis-focus) Actually, looks just like the Tarantula I visually saw through Phil's Mega-Mewlon before I refocused it from his coke-bottle eyesight...

It can be quite interesting and educational exercise to browse own old data and see how things were improving over time.

Recently I had a look at my old image of the Tarantula and tried to identify a few objects in my old photo by comparing it with one taken by professional astronomers. Definitely I would like to try once again imaging the Tarantula, one day...

Thanks Rick, there is fun in reprocessing old data. Seeing what can be improved 18 months down the track.

Focus cannot have been too bad considering that I was able to drizzle integrate (low FWHM) Will have to see what the big ol' Mewlon can throw up in April!

It is an interesting exercise. So far I've done it on wider fields with plate solving but I haven't done it like what you've done. I'll have to give it some further looking with better higher resolution Ha data I got.

The first certainly wasn't processed as hard. Has a lot less noise reduction and FAR less contrast enhancement. Sometimes I do question whether simple is better. My processing has gotten better over time (lots of practice) but there is something to be said for better simple processing and not going over the top. Fine line to walk!

That is a really good Tarantula core. Very nicely taken and processed. We like it a lot.
