Sharpless 2-240 in HaRGB - high res rendition

Second rendition based on SRO and DSW data sets. The previous version (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...d.php?t=153744) was based on the wide field data from DSW with the Ha mosaic from SRO overlaid. This rendition uses the high resolution (narrow field) SRO data as the base and just takes colour from the DSW data.

SH2-240 is a very large (approx 3x3 degrees) and dim supernova remnant on the Taurus/Auriga border.

SRO data capture details...

Scope: FSQ-106ED
Mount: Paramount ME
Camera: QSI683
Filters: Astrodon 5nm Ha
Guiding: QSI OAG + Lodestar
Image scale: 4.19 arcsec/pixel (2x2 binning)
Exposures (3x3 mosaic):
A1: 16x1800s Ha
A2: 16x1800s Ha
A3: 13x1800s Ha
A4: 15x1800s Ha
A5: 07x1800s Ha
A6: 10x1800s Ha
A7: 19x1800s Ha
A8: 19x1800s Ha
A9: 11x1800s Ha

DSW data capture details...

Scope: Rokinon 135mm f/2
Mount: Paramount ME
Camera: QSI583
Filters: Astrodon E-series Gen II LRGB, 5nm Ha
Image scale: 8.6 arcsec/pixel (drizzle to 4.3 arcsec/pixel)
Exposures: 24x300s R, 21x300s G, 27x300s B, 78x600s H (19 hours)

All image processing done in PixInsight.

Higher res version at Astrobin: http://www.astrobin.com/286622/0/

Thanks for looking and for any constructive comments.

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks, Andy! Did it render OK for you in Astrobin this time? This one is sRGB instead of AdobeRGB.

Yes indeed JA and even though those two clips are both studio recordings, Mario had one of the greatest Tenor voices of all time. I would love to have heard him and Luciano sing together and challenge people not to cry.

Again, bellissimo Spaghetti Richardo!

Breath-taking, Rick.

That is a right, true, and proper explosion, wonderfully captured and presented.

Thanks Mike (again) & Rodney. I know many languages other than English but C, C++, Java, Python etc. don't seem to impress the ladies as much as Italian

That's awesome Rick! I have the DSW data, and I have no idea how you're able to pull out the nebula so well with such a rich star field. Really amazing... please tell me your secrets!

Thanks, Lee. No big secret. It's mainly a result of using the Ha mosaic as the luminance. The difficult part is dealing with the mismatch between the lum and colour data. That required a fair amount of tweaking.

BTW, the attached pic shows a teeny bonus object from the FOV - the low surface brightness planetary nebula Purgathofer 1. Size is 60"x70" and surface brightness is 26.5 mag/arcsec2 according to this research note: http://adsabs.harvard.edu/full/1978A%26A....70..589P

Truly a mind blowing image Rick! I can't get over the size of that thing and how faint it must be.
