Take over - York Optical

Hi

I just heard a rumour that York Optical in Brisbane and Melbourne have been taken over/bought out by another astronomy company? Is this true? Has anyone else heard any rumblings?

I've always enjoyed a good shopping experience in the Brisbane Branch and found Matthew and his staff very helpful.

Cheers

Dennis

Dennis,
That is not good news.
York Optical are one of our sponsors at the SETI project.
I will try and find out if the rumour is true by talking to my friend Noel.
I will keep you posted.
Give me a couple of days to get the answer.

Mike

Hello to everybody on IceInSpace forum,
I have been visiting this forum for a while now. I find IIS to be a great way to find out who's who and what's happening as well as to see which directions the astronomical community is heading in. This is especially useful when you are dedicated to supplying astronomers with the most appropriate equipment to compliment their astronomical activities. I thought it was well about time that I made a post.

Firstly I would like to thank Dennis for telling me about this forum and also for the nice compliment.

Now about that rumour..... http://www.astronomyonline.com.au/.

Best Regards,

Matt.

Welcome aboard Matt. I think that Astronomy Online were the guys that I purchased the WO guide rings from at the 2006 Qld Astrofest? I look forward to continuing my purchases locally - its good news that you are staying on.

Cheers

Dennis

Wonder how it will impact on prices, if at all?

Hi All,

I'm a new user so "please be gentle with me"!

I'm also a new staffer at Astronomy Online in Sydney and would like to assure you all that AO's intent is a good one - we want to offer a much wider range of brands and products at the physical stores in Brisbane and Melbourne as well as continue to build up the online side of the business...that's where I'll be helping out most!

I can also say that the 'new' stores will be equal participants in the AO sales and promos from now on so any impact on prices should be a positive one!

Please don't take this post as an advert - I just wanted to say where we're coming from with this latest development!

Cheers

Aidan

The on-line side of the business could certainly do with improvement.

There are many links within the site that lead nowhere or to very little product.

Glad you're onto it

Talking

Thanks Matt,

feel free to offer any suggestions - for now at least we have redirected the old York Optical site to AO. At this stage we envisage the online side to be centred and handled by AO here in Sydney.

Dennis,

Well I don't need to waste anymore time on the rumour.
I hope the new owners will still want to be sponsors though. It would be a sad day for us if they pulled out.

We are getting so close to having the observatory site up and running in both Optical and Radio frequencies.
This weekend we started to put the skin on the 40 foot dish, it will take us a few more weekends to complete it.

The "First Radio waves" party is not far away now, all of our sponsors will be invited to the event.
I can not give our sponsors enough praise for the generosity they have shown to enable this project to be competed, even though we still have a long way to go until the whole site is fully operational.

Our sponsor's have enabled this project to become a reality, and I am extremely grateful to all of them.

Mike.
