Eight Days a Week

I saw this movie about the beatles on cable TV recently. In almost every group scene, George Harrison was smoking a cigarette. He died in 2001, aged 58, from lung cancer.

Sad really, especially since the Beatles era was at a time when the debate was still raging about whether smoking caused lung cancer.

Overall though, for a 60s music fan like myself, it was a most enjoyable movie/documentary.

Sad but looking back I think looking at him, it was evident he had cancer from a far younger age.

At my age (60) - and having known several who have died of various cancers - there's something about the way cancer victims look and it's visible in photographs that they were all quite unwell long before.

Conversely looking at the Rolling Stones I am moderately surprised some of them are still alive, starting with Mick ...

Fingers crossed...

Maybe that look came from changing to vegetarian diet. John Lennon also appeared to be lacking something - good nutrition?

In films and documentaries the Beatles always appear to be enjoying their lives as music superstars.

When I went to uni for the first time, I was crazy for a beautiful strawberry blonde I met on my first day. When I asked her out on a date, she said, "You expect me to kiss an ash tray"? I took the pack out of my top pocket, crushed it and chucked it in the bin next to her. We were an item for quite a while but eventually split up. I went from 20 a day to zero and never picked up another smoke. That was 35 years ago this year and I am ever in her debt... My skin crawls at the thought of what those things can do to you.

I watched a movie called ' Casablanca ' which starred Humphrey Bogart....in 99% of the scenes, I noticed he was smoking a cigarette and drinking.

Guess what .... he died from lung cancer caused by smokes.

so did .... Marlborough Man ( the Man on the Horse ) .... who promoted the ' Marlborough ' Cigarettes.

Col.....

I caught this in the cinema, which included the concert. Great documentary - they were busy lads. They just didn't stop for about 5 years, not including the years before they broke out.
