Hello,
I've finally figured out high pass filtering... (i'm slow)
been experimenting with this a bit.
reprocessed my M42 withte meteor through it for fun.
unfortunately i also wanted to fix the core and because the less exposed frame i used had been centered differently from the main image i ended up having to crop the shot a bit.
nevertheless i'm happy with te improvement and I'll continue to practice the high pass filter technique
cheers
frank
Thanks Al, Petra and Ken.
I was nervous about posting this at all because of the severe cropping I had to do at the top but thought it might be worthwhile to show the effect of the high pass filter
cheers
frank
Wow Frank that is a great improvement.
I'm sure there are many like me out here who are wondering how we can manage to get an image like the first one much less the second. How about a blow by blow description of high pass filtering?
hey Thanks everyone.
I'm sure the High pass technique is better described elsewhere but here's what I basically did/do (remember I'm still just learning this stuff!)
presumably you've done the stacking and basic calibration etc to the point of having a picture you're pretty happy with (levels done/curves, saturation, etc)
duplicate your image
filter/other/high pass
set the high pass to about 60 pixels (adjust to taste)
select all, copy
go back to your original (preferably a duplicate so you never damage the original)
paste
open th elayers window
select soft light (or experiment with hard light)
slide the opacity (i select 30-100percent depending on the picture-experiment with it)
flatten the image/merge the layers
finalise unsharp mask etc as required and noise reduction process you usually use
