Its been since August last year that I have posted an image here. That is not to say I have not been imaging; when in fact I have. I thought I would pop in and show a few of the better images I have produced of late. This one is of the Lagoon in narrow band and LRGB stars.
That's really nice Paul, very nicely resolved down to the hour glass.
Thanks Colin. Despite being a really bright object, getting the right seeing hampered my efforts here. I was happy with the scale. I have imaged this many times but not done one at this resolution.

Thanks Mark. This last year has been difficult for imaging. We had a very wet year in South Australia with over 300mm over the average. That meant more cloud cover for us too. I have been quite spoiled for clear skies for many years but climate change might make that a thing of the past.

Thanks David. The accusation of plagiarism last year did knock me for six and my health was not the best Both prompted me to reassess what was more important to me. I don't think I'll be as active here as I was but will pop in every now and then.

Thanks Rick, the full res version is slightly bigger but does not show much more detail. Seeing let me down on the nights I was imaging this and I know in better seeing I would get crisper results. I am still happy with the level of detail though, just wanting that little bit more. I have added a crop of the area though for your perusal. It probably needs short subs to give more detail in and around the hour glass.

Thanks Simon, despite the amount of times I see images of this nebula, I can say that every now and then I see one with such outstanding detail and tones. It is a really marvellous object to image and like you I like that cloud ridge myself. I think the one on the other side is really my favourite though.
What I'm seeing for the first time here is not just the usual favourite assembly of small crisp discrete structures (Mrs Logie, the flying kangaroo, the emu, the euphemistic hair-dryer, etc) but also a series of very long, coherent and salient but far less sharp streamers, not organized into shock fronts. A bit like a glassy lagoon had been put on a hot-plate and was starting to melt locally, a la Salvador Dali's watch. These are undoubtedly real and important structures, I've just never seen them before. Thanks for a new view. Perhaps your image scale is especially suited to showing these long, streaming features. Also it's upside-down to the way I normally see it, and that might have helped see it anew, but I think your particular processing has helped bring them out.
