Does this ever end.........

Being a relative newbie to the system, I've just jumped in. Nobody told me about the sleepless nights before work. Nobody told me about the mozzies. (And it freezes up here in winter, but superclear!, but Ive got handwarmers) Nobody told me about aperture fever (6" to 12"), but I've just gotten over that, only to find my immune system weakened and now have a bout of EP obsession. (28mm UWAN) I now find myself not game to build an ob as I will probably want an immediate upgrade. Is there a self help group available???

Hi Rod,

Sorry, but so far there is no known cure. There is a telescope available to wipe out any budget!

And self-help groups? They are more like buying-groups, I'm afraid.

The best way to ease the pain is to look up, once the sun goes to bed.

Scary stuff, The plinths in my yard (1 acre) seem to be breeding as well. I swore I only built two, but now there are three!

Rod I suggest you look into taking some photos, try the Moon it's easy and maybe a planet of two but its the sort of thing that you won't get carried away with.

Perhaps try meteor observing. It leaves your hands free to swat any unwelcome mozzies.

Don't listen to Alex, he's just baiting you to mortgage your house on cameras, filters, mount & telescope upgrades!

Get a Hepworth Freezer suit. I live in it during Winter and its like Summer inside. As for the rest.. no cure... but its better than booze, drugs, fast cars and womanising. Bad news is... you are in the "self help group"...
Thanks for this thread Rod. After a particularly ****e day, a reason to smirk!

Welcome to the money pit Rod.

But it's a fun money pit.

As the Borg would say "Resistance is futile"

I believe a gathering of people with the ailments you speak of Rod would have a negative effect in intensifying the symptoms and outcomes. Like a lot of us it’s just something you have to learn to live with and manage the best you can.

Rod there's a very nice town in China that is technically in the tropics, yet at 2,500m so the climate is a balmy 20-odd all year round, and no mozzies. Also in the far side of Yunnan so it's free of air pollution and from personal experience expect to see mag 7 and fainter naked eye.

It would be nirvana for some though the downside is having to learn mandarin and acquire a taste for very hot chillis. Nirvana is s short distance away - at Shangri-La. it really does exist. And fwiw mountains in this area are typically 4,500m...

Mmmmm.... chilis....Thank you all for your replies, good to know I'm not alone..........so many eyepieces, so little room......I'm going to avoid the photo trail, trying to stay low tech. More fascinated at this time by the ancients and their early discoveries.

I think it is excellent buying.
I had to go to the hospital at Southport re my back a while back and missed the turn off and went thru to Ballina.
It seems so close to Brisbane now.
So underdeveloped must be great for investment.
Always loved Balina ...had my first fight when five at Balina.
So I bet your are not laughing now.
Happy new year.
