NGC2264 Cone Neb

Right..I had no idea this was so low but I had really dark skies, it was one of those rare clear nights and I wanted to put the AP Mach1 to use. A first light I suppose but it does need more data.
NGC2264 Cone Nebula

The mount works a treat. 1 rejected sub all night but will want to look at PEC on this as I think it needs to be redone. Will wait till the weather gods stop taking the Mick for that though.

I am struggling though with star masks in PI. Cant quite get the settings right. I am finding that there are dark ringing artifacts and in fact some look a little square. If I get more data I will be able to drizzle (image scale is 4.5 ish) and that might help. Any guidance appreciated.

Thanks for looking

Nice one Dave, for a low one you've done a great job, colour looks spot on too Glad the Mach 1 is working so well, having not worry about your mount is a blessing in this game

Cheers Mike. The mount was a treat for 5 years of non smoking and $35k not wasted. It's the ducks nuts.

The link doesn't seem to work for me Dave. Thumbnail looks great though. Colour looks spot on - rich & nuanced! Nice!

Cheers, Marcus

Really good, David. I remember how difficult I found the Cone Nebula and have never really achieved a good result. Well done!

The Cone itself reminds me of Darth Vader or a Nazgul or some such in a dark cloak. The Christmas Tree counteracts the gloom nicely!

Best,
Mike

Looks good, David. Colour is nice and rich.

If you're having problems with square looking stars in your star mask try bumping up the smoothness.

Cheers,
Rick.

Very nice result David and it makes me want to try RGB imaging, but that would need to be with my next scope.

That turned out very well. I really have to do this object myself properly one day. There are so many objects around Orion its hard to get them all.
This one is a beauty.

Greg.

Thanks for the comment Mike, interestingly I see a claw like hand at top pulling off the head of a jelly baby? Too many late nights..
