LMC Mosaic

Since the Moon was up used the Hutech Nebula filter.
Canon 5DH, Canon 300mmF2.8L at F2.8, Hutech Nebula filter (NBN-PV)
Two lots of six exposures. 2x6x10 min at an ISO of 200. Raw to Tiff and correction for flats with ImagesPlus. Stacked with Registar. Mosaic with Imerge. Levels and curves with PS.

Great image Bert, however I can see a colour balance change where the 2 images are joined (running vertical up the middle of the image).

You are correct Mike. But the RHS was taken on Sunday night and the LHS on Monday. This even with a nebula filter plays havoc with the luminance when the Moon interferes as it gets brighter.. I see this more as a practice for when there is no Moon.
The aim ultimately is to go to a dark sky site when all the many variables are pinned down. A very good friend has offered me his holiday house in Beeches Forest (in the mountains up from Lorne) for as long as it takes to get some dark sky images. Ken from SV has offered the same (his place).

Anyway here is an image with a cone in it! Taken last night same conditions as LMC.

Fantastic work Bert, so much information is recorded on those images. One could only dream of this in the days of Film. Only gas Hypersensitized 2415 technical pan film could come close, and it was monochrome.

Scott when I worked at CSIRO in the early seventies I used to hyper my own film (tech pan and colour neg) in a vacuum system and introduce a mixture of Hydrogen (5%) and Nitrogen and bake for some hours. This was then carefully taken home without any moisture ruining the Hyper process. Many hours of careful hand guiding later (per exposure) with this film in my trusty Minolta SRT 101 I very rarely got a good image. Too many variables and we did not have decent LPR filters. One mistake in tracking (zig instead of zag) image lost. Reciprocity failure was the also enemy!
This made me even more determined to succeed.

Now it is almost too easy relatively. There are still to many variables, but we are slowly winning.

That is why I enjoy sharing and learning with you all.
